“So what now?” the Manager asked with her fingers gently interlaced. She peered over at dolch, dirk who had finally managed to bring himself to a sitting position and calmly waited for his response as he tested how well he could move. As for dolch, dirk himself, he was nothing short of amazed with his body. He was in an insane daze for the majority of the last several hours but what little he remembered of what the medics told him proved that whoever this young girl was, she was the real deal. dolch, dirk was not merely knocking at deaths door. He leased the property and was in the process of furnishing it when whatever concoction she made dragged him out of it and back to the world of the living. Perhaps the sudden contrast was confusing him, but he also felt physically stronger than he did before the match with the Gattarian. Stretching out his fingers before slowly clenching them as hard as he could into a fist, dolch, dirk looked back at the two women awaiting his response.
“We part ways. I can’t provide the same service that our agreement demanded.” Dirks knuckles began turning white as he thought back on what he told Jaden. “I can’t live a lie anymore. The Unwavering Spear…the very Titel itself makes me sick with myself. I originally became a fighter because I was proud of my strength. I knew I was the strongest and I wanted to prove it to everyone, but I never once thought about what the tournaments truly were until I met you. The tournaments are games. Nothing Mehr and nothing less. We created the persona of The Unwavering Spear to play that game. From that point on, the persona consumed me. It really wouldn’t have been unreasonable to say that I was Mehr The Spear than I was dolch, dirk Larimore. I never once thought about the others who might have believed and been using the tournaments for something more.”
“Ya, but didn’t Jaden also lie to her fans?” Fi asked curiously. Unlike the Manager, she was sitting straight up and seemed to find the whole situation exciting. “She led them to believe that she’s a man.”
dolch, dirk shook his head. “The White Knight merely did that to make things less complicated. To protect herself as this nation doesn’t take kindly to female fighters. That aside, this decision isn’t about trying to be Mehr like Jaden. I won’t try to claim that she isn’t partially influencing my decision, but this is for me. For the two halves of myself to reconnect. I can’t take credit for changing the hearts of others until I can change my own.”
In a way, the Manager standing up at that exact moment punctuated Dirks entire speech, bringing it to a resounding close without even needing to acknowledge it oder say a single word. “Very well. As my final act as your manager, I shall inform the medics that Du are adequately recovered and will be retrieving your spear shortly. Farewell, Mr. Larimore.”
Then she was gone. She simply walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. She hadn’t sagte much at all, but the lack of her presence was felt Von everyone in the room, particularly Fi. “So uh…she seemed serious about leaving.”
“I was serious about asking her to.”
“I mean I’m all for watching someone who dresses like that walk away, but this just doesn’t feel like the conclusion I had hoped for.”
“What did Du hope for?”
“An orgy, but also for some big reveal! Like “I’m a spy” oder “I was holding back the entire time!”
“I wasn’t. I appreciate what Du have done for me, miss…”
“Call me Fi.”
“Fi. Du would be best suited to return to your friends. I’m not going to-“
Dirks futile attempt at getting Fi to leave the room was interrupted Von a loud crash from the hallway outside the infirmary. Dirks eyes immediately darted to the door for any signs of danger. “Someone’s coming,” he thought quietly and a few moments later, the door burst open and a young girl darted in, slamming the door closed behind her. She seemed to be about thirteen years old and had dirty brown hair that had clumps of dust and little sticks mixed into it. Her clothes were torn and smelled like they hadn’t been washed in weeks and she was most definitely in a state of panic. “hng” was the sound she made as she clutched at her hair and took several steps back from the door. In a seemingly desperate attempt to find somewhere else to hide, she finally noticed the room wasn’t empty. Upon seeing Dirk, who she likely recognized, she gave probably the most adorable “eep” that someone in her position was capable of and backpedaled away from him, bumping into Fi as she did so which made her yelp yet again and change directions till she had backed herself into the door. “Wh-who are-” she started to ask before the door she was leaning on was pulled open and she toppled backwards, landing on her butt with a poof that knocked a small wolke of dirt loose from her dingy pants. Standing above her, the ones who opened the door, were three gangly teenagers that were about twice as tall as she was and looked incredibly pissed off.
“Well well, finally found ya, Du thief,” the middle boy said. He was clearly the leader and probably the only one who had any beef with the girl. The others were followers. The girl tried to defend herself as the boy grabbed her Von the neck of her hemd, shirt and pulled her up to her feet.
“I-I-I-I’m not! I didn’t stea-ack!” her protests were cut short as the boy tightened his grip, lifting her even higher. Her feet were now dangling a good couple inches off the ground.
“Don’t lie! I saw Du scurryin’ off and it just HAPPENED to be that my coin geldbörse went missin’ at the same time?”
“I…was just…”
“I don’t wanna hear it! It’s like that old sayin’. The simplest solution is to beat the truth out!” somehow, the goons beside him found that funny. Of course, they also found it funny when a book thrown Von Fi smacked him dead in the side of the head, causing him to grunt in pain and release his hostage, who fled to the opposite end of the room. His coin geldbörse must not have meant too much to him as he immediately changed focus to be angry at Fi. “You gotta death wish?!” he began to advance into the room while the other two tried to look menacing.
“Look this is just NOT attractive. Why don’t ya look at the bed, Du imbeciles.” Fi sagte in a bored voice as she motioned towards Dirk. “That’s The Unwavering Spear. An elite fighter. Known widely for his schtick about caring for the young and helpless. Du really want to go around assaulting women and children in front of him?”
That clearly scared the boy, but he had to save face. “ya, well I hear he got his arsch beat pretty badly Von some pacifist from another nation. Not real scary to be tellin ya.”
thud
“Not to mention, he doesn’t even have a weapon. Du bettin’ that us three cant take an injured unarmed man down?”
thud
Fi simply raised her eyebrows. “Three?”
“Ya, Du dumb bitch. Can’t Du cou-“ it was at that moment that he realized that the two boys he had entered with were currently unconscious and on the ground and standing directly behind him was none other than another couple fighters who had heard the commotion.
“We were on our way out the back when we saw this scene playing out. Hope we weren’t interrupting.” Alex Grander, The Luzon said. In front of Alex and the one who had knocked the boys out cold was Jin. “Leave” was all he said, and this time the boy didn’t have his Friends to try and impress. With a nearly unintelligible scream involving his mommy, the boy darted out the door and very likely far far away.
“See now that’s how Du be attractive. Keep it up Alex, you’re making me positively dripping with satisfaction.”
Alex ignored her while Jin knelt in front of the girl and offered his hand. “Are Du hurt?”
“Y…y…y…y”
Jin waited patiently.
“You’re…Amdusias…I saw your match just now! I wanted to say I saw taped recordings of all your matches! I always knew you’d be back!”
Jin sagte nothing.
“I-I brought this for you.” The girl said, meekly pulling out a small charm bracelet. She probably did steal the boys money, and probably used it to purchase the bracelet.
Jin took it and patted the girl on the head. “Go home.”
“Yessir!” and with that the girl left, practically with a spring in her step.
The Weiter half Stunde was spent dealing with the unconscious boys in the room and saying goodbye to Jin and Alex until eventually it was once again dolch, dirk and Fi, standing beside each other. “You know…” Fi said. “It really seemed like Jin was able to make a difference in that girls life. She was happier because he fought. I’m not saying Du have to follow the same path others have laid out for Du oder even if combat is what Du are meant for, but I don’t think you’re ever going to stop being The Unwavering Spear. I think those two halves aren’t going to merge together. One wont vanish in favor of another. It might not even be healthy for that to happen. I think they’ll learn to work together. dolch, dirk Larimore and The Unwavering Spear. dolch, dirk Larimore IS The Unwavering Spear.”
“That was far too cheesy”
