I kind of knew because is Cassandra Clare ended the books any other way people would be MAD! She wrote the book to entertain and please people so that was the way the book had to end. :)

I'd been spoiled by the film, and I was also picking up the little hints in the books as I was reading (I don't know if I'd have noticed those if I didn't already know, though). I also guessed that a teen book wouldn't have an incestuous couple as its main pairing - a bit too controversial.
