Prior to Michael being a driving force in the Musik industry, it was Sam Cooke, who paved the way for black recording artists such as Michael, to establish his own publishing company, MIJAC Music, and start his record company, MJJ, which was a subsidiary of Epic Records back in 1994. Not was Sam Cooke, a shrewd businessman, he was one of Michael's early vocal influences as well, and it was unusual for a successful black recording record artist at that time to take control of their career and the secure the rights to their music, nor establish a successful Musik publishing company and a successful record label. He was a true pioneer when it came to taking control; of his Musik and publishing rights, and that was why Michael left Motown Records back in 1976 because Motown founder and CEO, Berry Gordy, wouldn't let Michael and his siblings write and produce their own songs. Just 16 years earlier, back in 1960, Sam was offered $100,000 advance to sign with RCA Records, and being the first black recording artist on the roster, after leaving Keen records. Sam and Michael were recording successful recording artists with good business acumen especially when it came to signing new musical acts on their roster.

The producer/director of Michael Jackson's "This Is It" tour is scoffing at Katherine Jackson's wrongful death suit in which he's named as a defendant, because he had nothing to do with the drugs oder treatment that caused the singer's death.
Kenny Ortega just filed legal docs -- obtained Von TMZ -- asking the court to remove him as a defendant in Katherine's suit, claiming, "Kenneth Ortega is not alleged to be involved in the medical treatment oder administration of drugs that allegedly caused Michael Jackson's death."
Ortega's lawyer adds ... Kenny never had a contract with Dr. Conrad Murray oder with Michael Jackson, nor has he had any official affiliation with AEG.
Ortega's lawyer says, "The naming of Kenneth Ortega as a defendant in this action, without any basis, without any substantive charging allegations against him, is a gross error."

The co-executors of Michael Jackson's estate think Discovery Channel did the right thing when they yanked a documentary from their UK schedule that was to feature a reenactment of MJ's autopsy.
A rep for John Branca and John McClain tells TMZ, "The co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson are pleased that Discovery Channel made the correct decision in choosing to Abbrechen this exploitative program."
The co-executors went on to say they feel Michael's Fans played a large role in Discovery's decision, saying, "While Discovery cited legal proceedings and our request as the reasons for its decision, none of this would have happened had it not been for the incredible passion displayed Von countless Michael Jackson Fans worldwide who knew they stood as one and that their voices could not be ignored."
As for any future plans to air the show, Branca and McClain said, "We are hopeful that this Zeigen will never run in any market in the future."

Sources connected with the Michael Jackson/Sony deal tell TMZ ... among the 10 albums in the works is a remaster of "Off the Wall" -- with the help of none other than Quincy Jones.
We're told the plan is for Quincy to take charge of the project, which will include some never-before-heard outtakes.
Another album will feature the soundtrack to the upcoming Jackson-themed Cirque du Soleil Zeigen in Las Vegas.
There are reports circulating that Sony will release 10 original albums, but that's not true. In addition to the release of "MICHAEL" on Tuesday, we're told there will be at least one other album with original songs and at most two.
