Merlin was a greatest wizard who ever lived. Some call him a sorcerer, a magician, or even a warlock, but no matter how you call him Merlin was a Celtic druid above all else, a druid with almost unlimited magical powers. His real name in original Welsh was Myrddin Wyllt Emrys, Emrys being his sacred druid name, of course. The real Merlin, or Myrddin to be exact, was living back in the 6th century. He was a hermit who was so disappointed with life in those times so he simply left everything behind and moved into a forrest where he spend the rest of his natural life. There are plenty of stories and legends regarding Merlin final moments. According to most famous Arthurian legends, Merlin was captued by an evil sorceress Morgan La Fey, sometimes translated as Morgana, who has imprisoned him for the whole of eternity. Merlin would to escape and once again walk the earth in a distant future, alongside Arthur, the once and future King. It was Merlin who has used his magic to keep Arthur's last resting place hidden from from the world until the time is right for both Arthur and Merlin to reunite once again in the future. This future could very well be our present, and that's where the reincarnation steps in. Both Merlin and Arthur would to reincarnate in modern world, unaware of each other's existence until they meet once again, this time in a different physical form,of course. There are those who believe that time is right now. Plenty of modern-day Merlin AU can be found on the Web, all about the reincarnation of both Merlin and Arthur. In fact, even the BBC Merlin original story was set in a modern-day England, on a college where young Welsh boy with hidden magical powers of a druid would to meet the Prince of Wales, a future King of England, and they would to become roommates at first, and later even best friends, especially after they both discover the secret of their true identity. The story draft was first entitled Arthur And Merlin, then changed into The New Adventures Of Merlin, and finally into Melin, The Young Wizard. Those were only the working titles, since no such story was ever actually being filmed due to a BBC decision that such a story would be too risky because of a similarity with both Princes William and Harry's actual life back in their college days. So, the story was re-written and set in the authentic time period, although still drastically modified from the original Arthurian legends for Merlin and Arthur were hardly pears when it comes to their age because Merlin was much older than Arthur, and he was Arthur's mentor and advisor, not his manservant. Even the title of this series itself, namely Merlin, is highly debatable and even disputed by certain true admirers of the original Arthurian legends to this very day.

Arthur was a legendary, yet still a real King. According to the Arthurian legends, he was a King of whole of Albion, or the British island to be more precise. His surname was Pendragon, and he was a son of King Uther and Queen Ygraine. The real Arthur, or Arthwys to be exact, was a historical figure, a real person and a real King. His full name in the old Welsh was Arthwys Pen Ddraig Goch, which literally translates as a Red Dragon's Head for Y Ddraig Goch actually means a Red Dragon in Welsh. In fact, a red dragon can be found on the Welsh flag even today, as a national symbol of Cymru/Wales. There are some serious scientific debates concerning the actual origin, or better said background, of King Arthur. Was he a Saxon King, or a Welshman after all, at least judging by his surname? No matter what his background may be, the fact remains he has a dragon in his surname, both in Welsh and in English alike. According to some legends, a red dragon of Wales was involved in a combat with his white Saxon counterpart. Whether or not one believes in such legends of young boy named Myrddin who almost got sacrifised by the so called wise men, Arthur's surname, after being anglicised, of course, does contain a dragon, except in English translation his actual colour has not been specified, unlike the Welsh original. So, the question regarding Arthur's true origin remains unanswered. It is a mystery even today, much like the rest of the Arthurian legends. Who was Arthur and what century was he living, not to mention the most important question of them all: Was there a Camelot, and what was the actual location of this legendary castle of King Arthur?

Merthur is a fandom, a modern-day fan-made gay pairing of Merlin and Arthur, derived from a BBC TV series Merlin, originally broadcasted on TV between 2008 and 2012, the whole 5 series, starring Colin Morgan as Merlin and Bradley James as Arthur. Their close on set friendship has soon evolved in much more than that. Instead of just best friends, their mutual relationship has gone to the whole new level, so, according to their fans, they became a couple. A bromance between Merlin and Arthur has turned into an actual romance between two best friends. Even off set, Bradley and Colin have become such close friends so the fans have named them Bradlin at first, later to become known as Brolin (not to be confused with the actual famous actors, both named Brolin). The chemistry between Merlin and Arthur is so plain to see for everyone. Their eyes meet constantly during the entire TV series. It was the chemistry between the two best friends that has made this BBC TV series so popular all over the world in the first place. For the majority of their fans, a romance involving Merlin and Arthur has been trajected into reality, creating a famous gay couple even off set. Merthur has become a world famous gay pairing. Plenty of fan-made pictures, videos, and fanfiction stories are currently available on the Web. Merhur is real, not only on a BBC TV series, but also on the Web, and even in the everyday life. It has become a part of a modern-day culture over the years, and so is the Brolin, as a fandom, of course. The close friendship for life between Bradley and Colin in real life has long gone beyond friendship, much like the on set friendship between Merlin and Arthur. For some fans all over the world they are much more than just friends, best friends for life, or blood brothers, for there are those who consider them even to be lovers. A love amongst best friends is highly possible, not only on TV, but also in reality. Therefore, both Merthur, just like Brolin, are far from being just a fantasy, at least for their devoted fans all over the world.
