In fact, this theory is not only the result of the similarity highlighted Von his self-portraits but also of the study of the somatic and anthropometric characters Eterna Vernice "a technique described in his Treatise on painting.

L' Arcangelo Gabriele visto di profilo, eseguito nel 1471 da Leonardo da Vinci non è altro che il suo autoritratto in giovane età, aveva soltanto diciannove anni.
E' nota la teoria che nel dipinto della Gioconda Leonardo si sia voluto raffigurare al femminile, nel suo primo dipinto si sarebbe raffigurato negli abiti del Arcangelo Gabriele.
In effetti tale teoria non è frutto solo della assomiglianza evidenziata dai suoi autoritratti ma anche dello studio dei caratteri somatici e antropometrici riscontrabili nella sua "Eterna Vernice" una tecnica descritta nel suo Trattato della pittura.
