The first strahl, ray of sunlight burst through the darkened sky past the grey clouds that had finally ceased their dusche of heavy rains. It was a good sign, the girl thought as she parked her car on the straße and taking her geldbörse from the sitz Weiter to her, locked the car and headed across to a row of boutiques that were lined up Weiter to each other stretching for half a block. She passed Von the first several shops on her left without paying attention to the names; it was when she reached the 7th Shop on that straße did she finally pause and turn to look at the name printed on the glass window – Angeline's Bridal Boutique. This was it, the Shop she had been looking for. She reached a hand out to pull open the door when she suddenly hesitated. Why? A memory was resurfacing from her mind, buried and hidden deep in her subconscious; it was this memory that brought her to this very store. After searching the best designer bridal stores over half the city, she knew that this was where she would find her wedding gown. She was confident about it because she had been here before, once, a very long time ago.
The girl touched the cool Gold handle and pulled the door open, making the tiny glocke hung above ring gently. As soon as she stepped inside, that long-forgotten memory came crashing back to her.
“Oh my god! Elle that dress is to die for!” A young girl of 12 exclaimed in delight when she saw Elle wearing a beautiful wedding gown.
“It does look like the perfect one.” Another voice, this time it was from a teenage boy of 17. “What do Du think?” He suddenly turned around and looked at the girl standing Weiter to Elle and noticed her admiring the gown.
She glanced up startled out of her thoughts and blushed slightly when she saw the boy staring at her.
“I think this is definitely the right one for Elle. Don't Du think so too?” The girl replied but focused her eyes on the bride-to-be standing beside her.
“Why yes, I do believe this is the dress I'll get married in!” Elle was beaming with brightness as she twirled around in her gown.
A voice from Weiter to her brought the girl back to the present as her reverie of that memory broke.
“Excuse me, may I help you?” There was a girl of about 25 standing and watching her with a worried look.
“Yes. I'm here to find a wedding dress...” The girl replied with a soft smile, “My wedding is Weiter Monat and I haven't been able to find the right one yet.”
“Oh my! Only a Monat left to go?” The other girl sounded surprised, “I'm sure we'll be able to find the right one for Du here.” She paused for a second, “I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Sara.”
“Its nice to meet Du Sara.” The girl shook hands with Sara and was about to give her name when an elderly looking lady entered from behind the counter.
“Hello dear, I'm Angeline...” The old lady sagte to the girl but paused as she got a good look at the young girl in front of her. “My child! I remember you, its been too long since we last met. Do Du remember the last time Du were here?” A big smile crossed the lady's face as she clasped her hands over the girl's gently.
The girl was a little surprised when she heard the old lady's remark about her having visited the store before and then she remembered the memory that had been suppressed since so many years; it had been Elizabeth's wedding when she was just 13 years old and one of the bridesmaids along with him as her datum to walk down the aisle together. They had come to this very store with Elle and her younger sister Becca to choose the wedding dress and she remembered meeting Angeline too.
“Yes, yes I do remember Angeline.” The girl sagte with a smile as she gave the old lady a warm hug, “Its good to see Du again.”
“Always a pleasure dearie! Now tell me, how is Elizabeth doing?” Angeline asked as she led the girl inside towards the aisles from which hung dozens and dozens of white flowing gowns.
“She's fine, she has two kids now, a son and a daughter.” The girl replied not paying too much attention to the wedding dresses around her.
“Really now! That's very nice. And what about that handsome strapping young man who had accompanied Du girls...” Angeline was cut short from finishing that sentence when she saw the hallowed look on the girl's face standing a few feet behind her.
“He was in an accident... a few years ago.” The girl whispered softly, trying not to let her emotions get the best of her.
“Oh my dear! I am so terribly sorry to hear that! I had no idea...” Angeline gasped in surprise when she understood what the girl meant. “He was such a charming young man and the way he seemed protective of Du I thought that Du were...” She let that last Kommentar be left unspoken and hugged the girl tightly, “Never mind that now, we're going to find Du the perfect wedding dress and make sure that you'll be looking like a princess on your big day!” Angeline smiled trying to lighten the mood.
“Thank Du Angeline, but if its alright with Du I wanted to spend a little time on my own to find the right dress.” The girl spoke softly trying not to hurt the older woman's feelings.
“Of course, its no problem dearie take your time. Just call if Du need anything.” Angeline knew that she needed a little Weltraum and left the girl alone going back to the front of the store where Sara was dealing with another customer over the phone.
Sighing deeply to herself, the girl resolved to make sure that she found her dress in this store no matter how long it took her. At first she spent the first few Minuten walking around the aisles fingering the soft materials trying to think of what she was looking for; she didn't really have an idea of what she wanted to wear, simple oder elegant oder modern, she wasn't sure. Yet something told her that the right dress was lying on one of these hangers. Half an Stunde later and two silent visits from Angeline, she still hadn't come across the dress and now she was starting to lose hope that she would find something here.
Just then a flutter from somewhere behind her alerted the girl and she spun around only to find that the aisle she was in still remained empty. Not many customers during the rainy days would personally come for their dresses, instead choosing to select a kleid from the catalogue and have it delivered oder put on hold until it could be picked up. Thinking that she was left with the option of choosing a catalouge dress for herself, the girl was about to head back and ask Angeline oder Sara for help when she felt someone watching her.
“Need some help?” A voice called out softly to her, from somewhere close by.
The girl spun around again and found herself face to face with a boy who seemed a little older than her leaning against the window with his arms crossed and his trademark smirk on his face.
“Where did you... when... what are Du doing here?” It took a few Sekunden for the girl to realize that he has come here and was asking if she needed his help.
“Not too long ago, I figured that since its the big d-day coming up soon you'll need to find the perfect dress and after all those countless places you've been to, this was your last chance wasn't it?” He asked her.
She shivered slightly even though it wasn't cold inside the Shop and thought about why he was here and whether oder not she needed his help.
“I'm doing fine.” She replied bluntly but in a calm tone. “I... I have it all figured out... just fine.” She added trying to sound confident.
“If its all figured out and fine then where is your wedding dress?” The boy grinned as he stepped closer to her and yet kept his distance.
“I... well... its... I'm...” With a deep breath the girl fell silent knowing that he knew she hadn't found it yet.
Instead of saying anything to her, the boy simply held out his hand and waited until she finished thinking and triple thinking her decision to give her hand in his and be led towards the back aisles which started to get dark inspite of it still being early afternoon. In less than a Minute the girl found herself recalling another memory of her last visit to the store all those years ago, but it hadn't fully returned to her yet.
“Well here we are.” He sagte to her as they stopped near the trial rooms.
In front of them was a rack of Mehr dresses but these had all been packed into covers and looked as if they hadn't been touched in years. Without saying anything else, the boy let go of her hand and walked over to the dresses and began examining them for several Sekunden until he reached the middle, his hand fingering one of the neatly packed gowns. He removed it from the hanger and brought it over to where the girl stood looking slightly confused.
“What are we doing here?” She asked him, watching as he carefully unzipped the cover and revealed a peek of white.
“Getting Du your wedding dress of course.” He sagte as he suddenly threw away the plastic aside and displayed the kleid in front of the girl.
It was at that very moment, when the boy showed her the wedding kleid did she remember the other memory; one with just the two of them, standing in this very same spot nearly a decade Vor with him holding the same kleid that he held in his hands now.
“Hey, Du disappeared on me back there.” His voice was just a whisper but it was loud enough for her to hear him.
“Sorry, I just... I was getting a bit... its not that easy looking for a wedding dress is it?” She replied as she turned around to face him.
He laughed as he looked at the younger girl standing in front of him, at 13 she was already beautiful and tall, still growing every day.
“Its not really that hard if Du know what you're looking for.” He told her as they continued their walk around the back aisles, “Elle and Becca are up front talking to Angeline about the perfect dress thinking she might know where it is.”
“I won't need so much time to find the right dress when its my turn.” She exclaimed as she took a hanger off the rack and showed him a beautiful strapless ivory wedding kleid with diamonds on the corset and a flowing rock with multiple folds. “See, I think I'll choose this one for myself.” The girl announced happily.
“Hmm... no, no I don't think this is the right one for you.” The boy shook his head slightly, not realizing that she blushed under his watchful gaze as he studied her holding the dress in front of her.
“How do Du know that?” She countered back. “If Du think that this isn't the right choice for me then why don't Du Zeigen me what Du think is perfect!” She was sure he wouldn't succeed.
The girl remembered Elle telling her and Becca the reason why her fiance Ryan hadn't come with them was because boys weren't good at choosing wedding gowns and the fact that the groom shouldn't see the dress before the wedding day.
It took him only a few Minuten to gewehr through the dresses hanging in that aisle before he gently lifted one of them down and walking over to where she stood turned her around so that she was facing the mirror and placed his choice in front of her. As soon as she saw the kleid that he had picked out, the girl's breath escaped her mouth in a gasp of surprise.
“Oh my! Its gorgeous!” She was beaming with brightness as she held the dress against her shoulders and saw her reflection in the mirror.
“No, Du look gorgeous.” He corrected her, a smile playing across his lips.
“Thank Du so much. This is what I'll wear on my wedding day. I know it.” She had never been Mehr confident about anything else in her life.
“I look vorwärts-, nach vorn to seeing Du that day.” He commented.
Before she knew it, the girl was snapped out of the memory with a soft click of the boy's fingers and she was in the present again, standing Weiter to him holding the dress against her shoulders once again.
“Hey, Du okay?” He asked her, looking a bit worried.
“I'm fine... I... I just... remembered...” She began to reply in a light voice but before she could complete her sentence he had done it for her.
“The last time we were here together and I chose the dress for you.” He finished.
“Yes.” The girl blinked as she suddenly realized that the tears were forming in her eyes. She wasn't going to let that happen. “I better go try this on.” She sagte as she quickly entered the nearest trial room.
Within a few Minuten she had composed herself inside the small changing room and slowly removing the kleid from its hanger she slipped it on and found that it fit as if the dress had been stitched just for her. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes for a teilt, split second, she stepped outside the trial room and when she didn't see him standing there she literally felt her herz sink down to her stomach. A sudden rustle from her right side caused her to nearly scream when she saw him Von the window again.
As soon as he heard her sharp breath he was Von her side again and when he saw her dressed in that wedding kleid he couldn't take his eyes off her. The kleid was off-shouldered with silk straps resting on her arms and a corset that was studded with the tiniest swarovski diamonds on the mieder while the rock which flowed graciously was plain save for a thin delicate band that was draped across her waist and tied into a loose bow hanging on her hip. The train of the kleid was long and it gathered behind like a perfectly still pond.
“My god, you're... you... you're stunningly beautiful.” He managed to get the words out as his eyes continued to widen in shock. She appeared as if she was a glowing goddess in front of him.
The girl couldn't help but blush a deep red as she heard his Kommentar and saw with her own eyes for the first time in her life that he was staring at her in a way no one else would ever. The happiness that she felt her in herz at that moment was one she hadn't felt in many, many years and she knew that it was all because of him.
“I think we've finally found the perfect dress for me, haven't we?” She whispered softly to him and when he looked up she saw that his eyes were watering.
“I'm sorry.” He whispered to her as he came over and took her in his arms, hugging her tightly. “I am so sorry I never sagte anything to Du when I had the chance... I should have made Du mine long ago.” She felt him trembling as he held onto her.
This revelation from him was the first she had ever gotten, he had never talked about their past oder the future they could have had together. For now the girl remained silent as he hugged him back feeling the dry lump forming in her throat. Neither of them knew how long they had stood there together but before she knew it, he had regained himself and the gaping distance between them returned as he stepped back a few paces.
“I did say that I looked vorwärts-, nach vorn to seeing Du in this dress and I'm glad I got the chance to do so.” He told her.
“Me too.” She choked out but didn't meet his gaze.
Knowing that there was nothing he could do to change the situation that they both were in, the boy finally gave in and allowed himself one last touch as he reached out and rested his lips on her forehead in a light kiss.
Just then a loud noise was heard and the girl opened her eyes to find nothing but the air around her; she turned around to find the Quelle of that noise was Angeline who had called out her name as she hurried to the girl's side on seeing her in the wedding gown.
“My dear! What a beautiful dress this is! I can't believe we still had it in the store. Du look simply wonderful! This is the dress then, isn't it?” Angeline asked the girl, not noticing that she was staring at the empty Weltraum Weiter to her.
“Yes, this is what I'll be wearing on my wedding day. I know it.” She echoed her words that had been spoken long ago.
Fifteen Minuten later found Angeline and Sara wrapping the kleid and placing it inside a box tied with a silver ribbon before handing it over to the girl who thanked both of them for their help and made them both promise to attend the wedding, having already gegeben their invitation cards. As soon as she left the store, she crossed the straße to where her car was parked and just as she was getting in the driver's seat, the girl looked back and saw a figure leaning against the Wand Weiter to the store, a boy dressed in the same clothes he had been on the night of his farewell party when she was 16 years old, the last time she had seen him. The boy who had chosen her wedding gown, in the past and today.
“Thank you.” She whispered to him knowing that he would hear her words, after all, if ghosts could talk they could surely hear.
