I'm hoping you mean the movie vs the book (an not the mini-series) cuz i pick the book ( oh ok crap..I like the series to, lol). I love the movie, its done very well, but the book had more creepy elements, not in the movie BUT they had a few in the series, like the hedge animals..those scared me! anyway....thats my opinion :)

I mean the mini-series. This is a spot for horror movies as in moving pictures = films and tv/mini-series'. Plus, hence the picture I used of the DVD cover, not book cover.

I prefer King's own adaptation as in the mini-seires to the Kubrick's film, because King's mini-series has:

- More intense atmosphere over-all.

- The hedge animals and the dead woman in the bathroom is a hell of a lot scarier than anything in the Kubrick adaptation.

- Somehow I found Doc's actor much more convincing and sympathetic in King's mini-series than in Kubrick's film. Plus I got tired of the kid rolling around the hotel on his bike in Kubrick's film. In King's mini-series his actions are more colourful.

- Jack Nicholson is an awesome actor, one of my all time favourites, but still I found Steven Webber remarkably scarier as John Torrens. Nicholson did it a bit over-the-top (on purpose) which makes Webber's performance a bit more realistic.

- Regarding John and Doc, not only do I prefer their actors' performances in King's mini-series but I also found the characters' relationship more...relatable?...than in Kubcrik's film. The father was abusive and scary but also obviously close with and loving to his son who obviously loved him dearly nonetheless. There was strangely still this feeling of safe bond between the two. The dynamic was more complex and somehow more emotionally charged than in Kubrick's film wherein they felt rather distant to each other. But then again, I haven't seen Kubrick's version for years so I may not have an accurate memory of that aspect in it.

- But I definitely remember the ending of Kubrick's version. And I hate it how others alwayc change the ending for movies based on King's books. Because the ending is the most important part of any story and changing it, changes the core of the story essentially. Again, naturally King's own adaptations always include the real ending, more or less.

So...My pick is Stephen King's own mini-series.

Yea, sorry for the mix-up bout the movie, book or series. Didn't realize Stephen King himself was in charge of the TV adaptation an the cover picked looked alittle like The Dead Zone series, (I couldn't make out the wording in the pic) thats what made me unsure about the question an the fact THIS IS for horror MOVIES there are occasional questions regarding books as well.
So now that I am completely clear on the question I to enjoyed the TV mini series slightly more than the movie. :)
