Originally zombie movies were all related to voodoo, and I don't remember any of them being flesh eaters. Some of the classics included 'White Zombie' with Bela Lugosi, and Val Lewton's 'I Walked With a Zombie'. Somewhere along the line they got incorporated with ghouls.
