I don't think they were a waste of money - the issue is not the ratio between the money / screen time. As long as these actors and actresses played their part well and add value to the story, there is no problem.

Should we consider then the extras (students, Hogwarts staff, passers-by and clients in Diagon Alley, etc) be a waste of money too ? But without them, the scenes would have looked rather empty and liveless. Thing is, we need people that play well and the HP movies showcased many talents. The issue is rather on the screenplay side, where the screenwriter will allow lines and room to an actor/actress to develop fully their characters. Some characters do appear for a minute or two but they can be essential to the plot (see Aunt Muriel or old Bathilda, for example).

ANYBODY else could have told those things of Dumbledore to Harry. As the have already changed so many thing about the books. And my point is not the money, that's just a metaphorical expression for how these tiny pop ups actually disturbed me. Because in the books they have time to be characters.. but poor Greyback, too never had a chance to rip somebody apart, Muriel - since we don't even figure out in the bloody movie, who she is - could have been Slughorn who we know from HBP or Kingsley who hasn't have 5 sentences since movie 5. Madame Maxime is just nonsense and it'd have been the least to give Helen McCrory the grabbing Lucius's wrist and suggesting him to hand over his bloody wand as SHE'll be the one saving Harry's guts in part too.. and again: I can't see that coming...

I'm not sure if you're referring to DH1 or to all the movies. I picked only considering DH1 now. Madam Maxime is not even supposed to be there, is she? At least I can't remember her being at the wedding in the book. I didn't mind her being there, but it wasn't necessary.

yeah either her or Maxime. at least we knew who Maxime was, whereas I dont even think it was mentioned that it was even Muriel in the film was it?? (it was obvious if you've read the book, but it still wasnt mentioned) - they could've just had Elphias say her lines or something.

Greyback goes from being one of the coolest characters in the books to a random background character. I mean, we don't even find out he's a werewolf, do we? At least his replacement is hot... Nick Moran... Scabior... Mmmm <3

Yeah, most or all of them should've been seen more...but I really liked Frances de la Tour as Madame Maxime, even with that miniscule and inconsequential appearance...:/
