I don't know if equally popular, but the essence of Harry Potter lies in the books.

just because it alerted more people to the magic that is HP-but the movies sucked ass compared to the books. and they could have got better actors for some of the parts-like Harry Potter's part. Daniel kind of ruined it.

I was born after some of the books were published, so I didn't here about them until a few years ago when they were making the movies and she was writing the final books. I think the movies made the books more widely known but I enjoy the books way more.

What's getting most on my nerves is that the movies ruined some of the characters like Ginny for example...

Although I agree that the books really made Harry, not the movies, but J.K wouldn't have made half her money if it wasn't for the films. The movies make the magic more real even if it did leave out a load of it. Without the film, I would probably never have even picked up a HP book so it's also one of the reasons the books are popular.

I have to say, i dont think i would have got into Harry Potter if i had not seen the movies!

Without the films it wouldn't have been an international success. Maybe in England but not very much in the US and other countries.

I noticed only after the films came out that the whole craze of popularity started.

The books are way better!!! I had read the first four books when the first movie came out and I was quite disappointed with some of the characters....but I got used to them and today I also like the movies

Don't get me wrong, the books are amazing and definitely stand on their own. However the films are really nicely done and brought it to a whole new level. The characters are perfect and are how I imagined them to be, some were a bit hit and miss though *cough*Ginny*cough*.... But yeah, overall the films are fantastic how we visually get to see the trio grow up over the years :)

Loved the books more but the movies where great too and we wouldn't have had Alan Rickman as Snape wit-woo x x

I personally preferred the books, but a lot of fans are fans because of the movies. A lot of books were popular before the movies came out (Twilight, Hunger Games) but then the movies came out an drew non-readers attention to the books.

I really like reading. It's just.. I'm going through this weird faze right now where I can't seem to get into reading. (aside from fan fiction. Which I read on a day to day basis.) I've got like, five books piled up on my shelf, just waiting for me to pick one up. But I can't seem to make myself do it! I have all intent of reading the HP series eventually. But until that time, I'll have to say, I prefer the films. It is a wonderful series and can be compared to no other.
