Halloween not on Oct. 31? New petition aims to change date of holiday

TUCSON – From Beggar’s Nights to school trick-or-treat functions, more and more children around the country are slipping into their costumes and roaming the streets for sweet goodies on a day that is not Halloween.

Now, a group of people is looking to make this a permanent tradition around the United States through a new petition that aims to change Halloween from Oct. 31 to the last Saturday of October.

In the petition on change.org,  the petition creators believe that this change will allow the holiday to be safer, longer and less stressful. The petition states that there are 3.800 Halloween-related injuries each year.

With parents working and the Halloween celebration hours limited due to school and other weekday related activities, the petition signers believe this will allow Halloween to be celebrated to its fullest.
