I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Remember Jennifer Aniston's Boyfriend Tag on Friends? Here's What Actor Eddie Cahill Is Up To Now | Glamour
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Remember when Rachel Green celebrated her 30th birthday on
with her younger boyfriend, Tag Jones? At the time, actor Eddie Cahill was a baby-faced 22-year-old. And now? Well, now, he's 38 years old, starring in the upcoming ABC legal drama
and giving us major George Clooney vibes with his silver-fox hair.
Cahill has worked steadily since playing Rachel's assistant at Ralph Lauren, including
that fans remember him from most. "I couldn't give you a number, but it came up recently. It comes up quite a bit," he told
exclusively at the TCA summer press tour in Los Angeles. "The reach of that show is remarkable to me. I was 22! So every time someone says,
In fact, talking about the show some 16 years later gives Cahill goose bumps.
was his first major role, and the part actually came down to him and another well-known actor from a WB series. "[The audition] was nerve-racking," he says. "The final audition was on a Tuesday, and it was myself and Tom Welling. They brought us to set and right after the audition—whoever got the role—was going to go right to rehearsal. I remember walking into a room with Marta Kauffman, David Crane, Kevin Bright, Jennifer Aniston, and it was a very warm room, but I was terrified. I went in and did it, then Tom went in and did it, and we went back again, and then they came out and they said, 'OK, thank you both. Tom, we're going to go with Eddie this time.' Tom very graciously shook my hand and wished me well. I'm getting goosebumps even talking about it."
Even better? Cahill had to ask to borrow someone's telephone so he could let his parents know the good news! "It was pre-cell phone," laughs the actor. "That was my first trip to L.A. I put my last $230 into a plane ticket to come out to L.A. to meet with agents. I picked an agent at the end of the week, and the first audition they got me was
, and I went in and got it. I was meant to go back to New York that day. We finished rehearsal, and I was outside of stage 24 where they did it [at Warner Bros.]. Courteney [Cox] looked at me because I must have looked lost, and she asked me if I needed a ride home. I was
too scared to say yes! I absolutely needed a ride home. I 100% needed a ride home!"
Now, of course, life is very different for Cahill (safe to say, he has his own cell phone
knows his way around L.A. like the back of his hand), but he hasn't forgotten where he came from. "I keep in touch with David [Schwimmer] a little bit, yeah," he says. "I certainly contact him on his birthday, and we formed a friendship through that. It was cool."
What about working with Jennifer Aniston? "She really allowed me to have a voice on set," says Cahill. "There's one moment in particular where we were trying to work out a joke in rehearsal, and I kind of leaned into her ear and said an idea and she stopped and said, 'Eddie has an idea, and it's pretty good. Let's try this!' So she allowed me to have a voice, which was very cool."
Cahill still catches old episodes from time to time, but he's learned to be easier on himself. "I always thought I could have done better," he says. "But now I see it, and it's kind of like, 'Well done, kid.' It was a really nice beginning, a really nice introduction."
Cahill's new series (which also stars Hayley Atwell) premieres on ABC this fall. He says he was drawn to the character of Conner Wallace because of his maturity and "good suits!" We have a feeling Tag Jones would be very proud.
