A Wish
Von Dawnstripe
I wake up, and the alarm is going off at seven. I sigh and remind myself it’s a Friday. I look around my room. Purple walls, white cabinets, my jewelery table. I reach for under my kissen and pull out a picture of my crush, Finn.
Finn is a cute, blonde boy in my class. He has olive colored skin and piercing blue eyes. A sigh escapes me, if only he liked me back.
I stuff his picture back under my kissen and hop out of bed. I change into my clothes, a pair of dark blue jeans, a plain purple hemd, shirt and a black vest over that. I brush my blonde hair straight and brush my teeth.
I skipped down the stairs to the küche and began to eat my breakfast of pancakes. I was almost finished when there was a knock on the door. I stood up to get it when my friend burst in.
I stared at my friend, Jane. She wore a brown and rosa hemd, shirt with bright green jeans. I snorted, she never had the best sense of style.
“Stella!” she said, and ran to me, “you’re forgetting that Finn is coming on our bust today. Du want to be early.” She stomps to where my school bag lay and threw it at me. I caught it before it hit what was left of my pancakes.
Then I remembered Finn was coming to our bus stop today and ran out the door, forgetting everything behind me, including Jane.
I ran fast down the sidewalk. Everything blurred past. I stopped at the bus stop to find everybody was there, except Finn.
I sigh. Maybe Finn wasn’t coming on the bus today. When i noticed that Finn’s friend, Stevie, wasn’t here yet. The sound of ‘goodbyes’ made me turn. I see Stevie and Finn walking across the straße towards the bus stop. I hear Jane coming at a pant behind me. She giggles, “Oh, I wish there was a shooting star, sterne to wish on that he was gone!” I tear my gaze from Finn and shoot an evil eye at Jane. “Somebody has to make Du less obsessed with him.” I nod. Maybe I was too obsessed with Finn, but I would never admit it.
The bus pulled up as Finn stepped on the sidewalk. I got on the bus and chose the first two available seats. Finn walked pass with Stevie, behind them was Jane. A broad smile was on her face.
Jane picks the window sitz Weiter to me. The silly smile was still on her face. “What is it that is so funny?” I barely managed to keep a mad face when I looked at her ridiculous smile. “It’s because Du blush every time Du see him.” She replied. I stared at her for five long seconds, then burst out in insane laughing. “I do not!” I say. I began to become thankful for the loud chatter on the bus to mask our conversation.
Jane leans back and sighs, “You do, Stella” I retorted back, “Do not!” She glances up at me, “Do too.” I gave up. She would start one of the”Do not.” “Do too.” “Do not.” “Do too.” fights which would go on forever. We started talking about something other than Finn and I was grateful for the change of subject.
I got out of the school bus and walked to class. I noticed Finn was walking with Stevie to his class. I head to my class with Jamie, letting him out of my sight.
I stare at the white board. The teacher’s voice blabbered on about how rocks have from water species in New Zealand. How long has she talked? 20 minutes? I thought. Finn hadn’t arrived in the classroom yet, I groaned.
“Stella!” The voice shattered my thoughts and I looked away from the board. The entire class was staring at me. Including the angry eyes of my teacher, “What Frage did I just ask you?” The Frage ringed in my head. What Frage did she just ask me? Then I knew it was a trick question. “The Frage Du last asked me was: What Frage did I last ask you?” I replied smoothly.
The teacher turned and a finger tapped my shoulders. I swivelled my head and body around. Jane looked at me hard. “What were Du thinking ignoring the teacher like that?” I gave her a little tap on her face. “I know this is stupid but Finn’s not here!” Jane glances around the room just to be sure. “You’re right!” She exclaims.
I glare at her, “Of course I am!” I snapped quietly. Jane looked down , apparently thinking. She popped her head back up after a couple of seconds.”Do Du think it was that silly wish joke? I said” Jane said. I look at her, “No that’s impossible. That’s magic.” Though I knew deep down that he was missing, and magic might have somehow very much been a part of it.
I walk off the bus in deep confusion. How in the world could Finn be missing? I walk to my house alone. I ate my abendessen quietly and went to be without a word. The thought stuck with me until sleep.
“He is in a cave...” A whisper is Von my ear. I wake up with a startled scream in a misty blue world I look to each side. No one. It’s a dream, I think. “No, this is real. Your crush is in a cave...” A strange man evolves before me.
He looked mysterious in a mantel of dark blue that went eerily with the dream. His hung head was covered with a hood, and a odd, long white beard hung to his knees.. Making it impossible to identify him oder the beard.
And in his hand there was a majestic golden staff. a the oben, nach oben of the staff a pure ball of white light. It shown eerily and made my skin turn into a grotesque shade of green.
He looks suspicious, I thought, but he must know about Finn and my thoughts somehow. As soon as I finished the thought I winced, it was stupid to think he is suspicious when he can hear my thoughts.
I dare a glance at the man. Apparently he hadn’t noticed because he hadn’t moved. “Go to the mall, fourth floor and go into the Sekunde stall in the bathroom. There shall be a portal where Du will be able to find him.” His voice was quieter now that he was in front of me.
sound like wind in fog came, and the mysterious man started to dissolve into the air.
Worry rushed through me, thinking I might forget the dream and his instructions. “Wait!” I cried, “I’ll need your help.” I tried to run where he barely stood but found my legs pinned to the spot Von some invisible force.
“Do not worry, Du will remember...” His voice echoed over head. I shot my head up just in time to see a man with a wrinkled face and a long white beard. But what caught my eye was a pair of ocean blue eyes staring at me. The rest of his face melted into the blue. But his eyes stayed and stared. I looked back and began to have the feeling those eyes were unreal.
I woke up gasping for breath. Outside the sun was rising. I looked at my clock, it was eight. I remembered the dream with the encounter of the man. The man. I found my herz quickening. The man, the man had deep ocean blue eyes. Deep ocean blue eyes with the pupils of a cat.
The car pulled up to the mall. “Now don’t Du waste too much money.” My mother warned. I had asked her if I could could go to the mall today. What I really wanted was to see if the dream was real and go see if there was a portal.
“Don’t worry we won’t!” Chirped Jane. I had asked her to come to the mall with me. What I really wanted her to do was to guard my back incase the dream was a trick.
My mother unlocked the door and Jane and I hopped out of the car. We watched the car go out of sight.
“I need to go to the bathroom, let’s go inside.” I lied. Jane nodded and we both ran into the mall It wasn’t a big one, but it worked well. And since it was so small there was one bathroom per floor. Making the cat eyed man’s word easy to understand.
“Let’s go to the fourth floor, it’s closer to my Favorit shop.” I lied again. Jane looked at me suspiciously, then nodded. I headed to the elevator with Jane following behind me. We waited in silence for the elevator. It beeped ‘1’ and we stepped in.
“I think I might know where Finn is,” I sagte pushing the fourth floor button, “and he is not in his house. Jane looked at me in bewilderment. The doors opened and I turned to where the bathroom was. He is going to be in a portal in the bathroom.” I sagte without pausing to think about how ridiculous that sounded.
Jane, on the other hand, did. She halted behind me, “You think Finn is going to be in the girls bathroom?” I sighed and turned to grab her arm. I pulled her towards the girls bathroom.
I stood before the grey for the Sekunde stall. “Open it.” Jane coaxed, but I could hear a quiver in her voice. I rested my hand on the door and hesitated. “Watch my back.” I sagte with a glance over my shoulder, “If I scream, open the door.” Jane nodded.
I pushed open the door and walked in. I wrinkled my nose in disgust as I closed the door behind me. There wasn’t a toilet, just a sticky, dark brown puddle on the floor. I noticed a cockroach lying upside down in the puddle.
But then I begun to feel a gust of wind, and the puddle with the cockroach sank under the floor. Replacing it was a blue and white swirling portal. It grew larger than the puddle had been and continued to grow.
I realized it was going to spread over the entire floor and I backed up to the side of the stall. It grew Mehr Von Mehr and I began to realize what a big risk I would be taking if I stepped in the portal. The portal inched closer and closer to my feet. Soon it was only centimeters away. I screamed. The door banged open as Jane rushed in but it was too late. My eat had started to sink through the portal and I stared with horrified eyes as I sank under.
I blinked my eyes open as harsh green sunlight reached me. I sat up startled, where am I? I’m definitely not in California anymore. I remember the dream and the portal and come back to my senses.
I stood up, I seemed to be some sort of a jungle. But I still had the same question, where am I? A cave perhaps? I smacked myself. Finn would be in the cave, not me.
Then I remembered caves are made for stone. I could climb a baum and see if I can find rocks. I searched for a baum to climb. I saw a baum that had lots of foot holds and I started to climb up it. It was easier than it looked and I scurried up like a eichhörnchen in no time. I looked above the tops of the trees for several Minuten when I had reached the top. The view was breathtaking.
I pulled myself together and tries to find something rocky. My eyes came across a stretch of grass. With rocks beside it! I looked harder to see the cave as a darker smudge agasnt the rocks. I judged the stretch of gras, grass wasn’t far away from this tree. I scurried down the baum with high hopes of finding Finn.
When I neared the bottom of the baum I jumped off. I ran as fast as I could through the undergrowth to where I thought the patch of gras, grass was. I felt the ground slip down and I knew I was near the cave. Soon I burst out into the open.
I gazed at the rocky out crops beside the stretch of grass. A dark smudge stood out against the rest of the rocks and I ran like a horse towards it. The rocks neared closer with every step. I had reached the end of the stretch of gras, grass when the light had been knocked out of the world and a huge taloned foot placed itself in front of me.
I looked up slowly to see a creature with the head of a bald eagle and the body of a massive lion. The back paws were lion, the front talons were eagle. Feathered wings stretched up to turn into wings like a bat. The creature’s tail whipped to and fro and I could see it’s muscles ripple as it turned to stare down at me. It was a well known mythical creature, a gryffin. But this time real, huge and absolutely petrifying.
I felt myself shrink in its presence. It let out a harsh screech and soared up into the sky. It circled above me. A whimper escaped me, no, I thought, I won’t be able to save Finn! I’m going to fail my quest. I curled up into a ball and prepared to die, with no hope of surviving an attack from a beast like this.
A loud thump followed Von a sizzle made me look up. I was protected Von some sort of magical force field. Beside the force field the gryffin lay dead, smoking on it’s side. I looked to see who had saved me, but found not one soul. A sparkling Gold glint caught my eye. It was outside the forcefield.
Carefully I touched the force field and it disappeared. I ran towards the Gold glint to find a long majestic wand. I knelt down and picked it up gingerly in my hand. I stared in awe at the magical item. I remembered that wands were used to create spells in fairy tales.
I looked at it thoughtfully. I tried to remember one of the spells in a story. A spell came to mind and I said, “Abra Cadabra!” Nothing happened. I tried another tactic, I thought about a patch of flowers. I flicked my wand at the ground. I squinted my eyes to see if it worked. Hoping against hope that it did.
In front of me stood the most beautiful patch of Blumen I have ever seen. I sharply turned my attention to the wand. A bubble of excitement rushed through me. A real wand, WOW!!! Then I remembered my task ahead of my and my quest to rescue Finn. I started to clamber up the rocks.
I stared inside the dark gaping hole. I had kept my wand out in case I came across any Mehr griffins but came and I stuffed my wand inside my pocket into the pockets of my shorts. The cave gaped, as if threatening to schlucken me. I crouched and down and felt for a staircase. Instead, I found a rope ladder. Slowly I made my way down.
I watched with horrified eyes at the water rapids beside me. The water churned, dangerous and a dark steely black. I turned to the row boot beside me. No oars were with it. It looked old and had a hole in it. Maybe magic could fix this boat, I thought. I was pretty confident that I had gotten this magic stuff down. I took my wand out of my pocket and imagined the boat, new and whole. I flicked my hand. A pop sounded and the boot looked new and fresh. Good enough I hope for the rapids, I thought and smiled.
I clambered into the boot and sat down. I looked around desperately trying find something to shift it into the water. I the boot slipped down suddenly and launched itself into the rapids. I lurched vorwärts-, nach vorn in surprise to find the boot moved at race car speed. I relaxed and began to enjoy the ride.
After a Minute loud thundering ahead of the boot made me jerk up. My herz began to drum. No, I thought, not a waterfall. Not here, not now! Not after I’ve gone so far! I pulled out my wand, hoping it would protect me. I saw the steep drop of water ahead...
