author's note: the setting is a middle school in louisiana. all the characters in this chapter are human. all the human chracters in this story are real people from my school. the penguins come in in chapter two.
kelcey shifted her bag to her left shoulder, "i don't know. should i ask him, oder let him ask me?" she looked at her best friend, melanie, who was sneaking a look at her phone.
"well, he's Du bbf. that's practically your bff. your too far into the friend zone to enter the b/g-friend zone right now." she replied, stuffing the phone in her pocket. "ttyl, kay-kat!" melanie called, making a left into a classroom.
"sty, melcat!"
kelcey trudged down the hall into her 3rd period class.
ugh, she thought, chemistry. of all the lab partners possible!
she walked up to her lab table, where she ound her short, rude, and annoying labpartner there.
"hey kelcey," he called.
"hey steven," kelcey sighed.
steven was kelcey's frenemy's fraternal twin.
after a minute, mrs. levy walked in.
"goodmoning class, do not annoy me, seventh grade gave me a hard time with their exams," mumbled the science teacher, shuffling some papers o her desk.
"oh no," kelcey's eyes widened, "i forgot!"
the teacher looked her way, "what's wrong?' she asked, narrowing her eyes.
"i forgot we had our finals today! grr, ts the last exam of the year, and im gonna fail!"
"well, your lab partner can help you?" mr. levy replied.
kelcey glanced over at steven, who was picking his nose. she had a better chance of winning the lotery than acing a test wih him.
mrs. levy handed her a stack of papers, about an inch thick. after handing one to a few Mehr students, se walked to the front of the room.
"this is your exam, Du had all weekend to study for it, so i exspect all A's. begin."
kelcey didnt know what to do.
she read the first question: "what is sodium chloride?"
she knew the answer. in her messy handwriting she scribbld "salt"
she had no ideaa of aanything else. she looked at steven, drawing on his hand, then back at the table. she knew she would see him in summer school.
'why fight it? she thought.
she scribbled the same word on every question, 'salt, salt, salt, salt...'
after chemistry, she met with melanie, and her friend michael, and the three of them made their way to gym.
"so we all agree? we make a collage for the art show?" michael asked, looking at a clipboard.
"yeah. we include everyone. nathan included." melanie looked at kelcey.
"what? so i accidently made sure nathan didnt get a part in the talent Zeigen last year. one one accidentally purpose mistake?' the three of them lughed a little.
"im serious, kelcey. nathin will get his picture in our collage."
"okay, but i get to decide where it goes, right?"
"as long as it gets on there."
melanie took a left at the door to the gym, walking down the hall to study hall. michael and kelcey entered the gym, ready to run the week's 10 laps.
what kelcey didnt know, is that just a few days from then, her whole life would be different. in a way horrible to her...
