First things first I Liebe river song/melody pond I think she’s freaking badass, funny, beautiful in every way, I even like relationship with the doctor but not on romantic bases but Mehr on friendship bases and I have many reasons I hope someone would read this and see things from my point of view.
Now to all the Fans that ship them together everyone has their own opinion to who Du really think the doctor was/is really IN Liebe with, but I don’t think the doctor is really in Liebe with river yes he loves her very much but he is NOT in Liebe with her, yes I agree river/melody is very much in Liebe with him.
Well see I think Steven Moffat tried too hard to make their “love” sound/look so epic/special that it just spoiled it completely, I mean I was waiting to see the exploration and the magic that is doctor & river, but when I watched S5 & S6 and watched their scenes, their interactions I was like that’s it that’s the big Liebe story really?? I mean I didn’t feel oder see that deep connation SM was trying to proof oder show, I expected Mehr but all I ever saw was river being in Liebe with the doctor and the doctor trying to figure out who she is and how she fits in his life he was Mehr interested in learning who she is, than actually getting to know her as person. And as for river/melody one mint she’s trained to kill him the Weiter mint she saving her life and she’s learning astronomy to “find a good man” just like that she feel for him and wants to find him again.
I mean yes I see the flirting that they have and its nice and everything but there isn’t really anything beyond that, they never actually have that kind of romantic relationship from the doctor side at least (because she’s so in Liebe with him), it feels too forced like Du have to Liebe them together because they are the only ones who truly “understand” each other because they both regenerate and have this mixed up time lines with each other, but that’s not enough to have a real romantic relationship with each other, it’s the experiences that two people go through together that really brings them close to each other actually discovering things about each other every Tag (like Rose & doctor oder Clara & doctor ) but whenever they met, they are always two step head of each other oder two step behind oder a little of both, and the Mehr they met the Mehr river seemed to be in Liebe with while still he’s trying to figure out who she is and what he feels for her and the Mehr and Mehr he seems to be comfortable at leaving it on the flirting bases but nothing further than that, and the whole river wedding was so forced down everyone’s throat and kind of didn’t make sense why they have to get married, I mean A) it wasn’t really the doctor it was a robot that looked exactly like the doctor so it doesn’t make sense how a touch of any kind (hand hold oder a kiss) would put back time right even if the doctor was inside his own robot self. B) They didn’t have to get married to fix the world they could have just held hands for a long time and that would have fixed the time line. C) It felt like he did for her sake like she was so desperate to marry him so he pitied her and married her for her sake.
Then SM kept all the characters saying she’s his “wife” but seeing that they got married in an alternative universe that doesn’t exist anymore because they got married which means they never actually did since that moment didn’t actually happen it, I mean it deleted it’s self river is in jail sell because she “killed” the doctor. I mean their whole relationship is based on when one of them need something from the other one, like when he needs to help him with something oder when she needs him to save from jumping in Weltraum and stuff like that it feels like old Friends doing favor for each other for the sake of their old friendship, most of the time (the little time they have together) the doctor doesn’t even truly trust her, she has a complete trust and faith in him but he never that trusty with her what kind of relationship they have if only one part of the paring trust the other while the other, and she goes on in her future (his past) the doctor knows her less and less to the point she arrived at a time line where he knew nothing about her and he put “her” in shelf like a book (river’s own words). A lot of Du would say will the KISS in 7x13 proved that he loved her, and might be right but the way I see it this his last goodbye to river the women who loved him Mehr than he ever truly loved the women that sacrificed her life for him either Von sitting a in jail scene for most (if not all her adult life) and then actually gave up her life to save him (and the people in the library) if anything he feels like a owe her that much a respectful, grateful goodbye for everything she has done for him, and he knows that giving her the moment the KISS & the goodbye is the least that he can do for her after everything, which is give her an decent appropriate goodbye.
I mean this what their relationship is about owes, mistrusting, flirting from the doctor side and love, trust, faith from river side. It’s never at the same level. All I’m seeing is guilt & pity from the doctor side but never romantic aspect about it, he never really depends oder rely on her not like she does, even river herself is 99% independent she always does things herself like the doctor, I mean they are both like too much alike they just really fit. And the Mehr SM tries to make such a big deal about them and their “epic” Liebe (like calling her his wife even though they are NOT married) the Mehr clear it shows that SM is trying to erase oder replace rose & doctor REAL Liebe story. I mean believe me even though I’m a rose & doctor Fan I was prepared to like them as a couple, I sagte to myself I should give them a chance they might be a good fit like rose & doctor, I was open to the idea of them but I watched and there wasn’t really there.
To sum up does the doctor Liebe river? Yes, is the doctor in Liebe with her? No.
