Disney's Streaming Service Officially Named 'Disney Play'; Is the Company’s Top Priority for 2019
Netflix is the king of the streaming service today, but Disney plans to change that with their very own service—complete with original content—set to come out next year. And the name of this ‘Netflix-killer’? Disney Play.
According to Variety, Disney CEO Bob Iger referred to the launch of Disney Play as, “the biggest priority of the company during calendar [year] 2019.”
After Disney Play launches, Disney will stop providing new content—including
and Marvel—to Netflix; the last Marvel film said to be
, Disney will be bringing all of their new films exclusively to Disney Play. Upcoming films like the live-action
Not to mention Disney Play also has some original content incoming. Probably the biggest draw right now is Jon Favreau’s live-action
series which has a budget of $100 million for 10 episodes. There’s also a live-action
streaming service, I’m crossing my fingers that Disney Play doesn’t come with that hefty of a price tag. If anything, Netflix has one hell of a fight coming for it next year.
No specific release date has been set for Disney Play, but it does aim to come out in 2019.
