audreygrace412 picked Tiana:
Tiana was the 4th princess to marry into royalty rather than be born into it. She was the 4th non-Anglo Caucasian in a row and the 5th to have jet black hair. She was the 2nd to be the major factor in defeating her villain. As far as unique, she was the 1st to: have workplace ambitions rather than love, freedom or happiness ambitions, be African-American, be set in the 20th century, be raised by her widowed mother over widower father, and turn into an animal.

Cinderella was the 2nd princess to grow up with an evil stepmother, in a humbling situation, optimistic and dreaming of a better future. However, she was the 1st princess to: be strawberry-blonde, marry into royalty instead of being born into it, which also made her the 1st more relatable/regular girl type of princess, show courage in the face of her villain (trying to stand up for herself), get married (actually shown rather than implied) and instead of using magic to break a spell, it was more of an accessory.

Snow White was the 1st princess which already makes her very unique in itself. That being said, there are still plenty of qualities in Snow that I think make her unique aside from being the pioneer princess. Although her resilient spirit was reflective of the women of her time, 8 years into the Great Depression of the US, there was also a message to the women to be optimistic again towards a better future during a time when many in the country were overworked, underpaid and underfed. The Great Depression saw both, a rise in women taking on extra work to make ends meet as well as an eventual rise in women losing work to compensate for so many men (seen as breadwinners at the time) facing unemployment. The only job that was consistently stable and reliable at the time was the job of some housewives to do help out in the tough times by rationing the food to make sure the family was fed, keeping the home clean to prevent illness and diseases, mending things within the home to save money and looking after the children etc. Snow White was symbolic of these women who were forced to work extra (as she was as a maid) keeping a positive spirit while cleaning the steps as well as a positive spirit when working in the dwarves’ cottage. She was also unique as a princess because she didn’t grow up spoiled and anointed but rather humbled and hardworking – more symbolism of people being born in America, the land of opportunity (as she was born a princess) yet facing such terrifying obstacles of survival in the Great Depression (as she faced the Evil Queen and Huntsman etc.). She was the 1st to: be trapped, be Anglo-Caucasian, based on/be an adaptation of an existing fairy tale, have jet black hair, face a female villain and be born a princess as well as marry a prince. All of that being said, being the pioneer princess only lends so much to being unique as the future princesses are bound to have differences from the original.

Mulan was the 3rd ‘princess’ to marry into royalty rather than be born into it, the 5th to be intellectually curious, and the 2nd to defy gender roles. She was the 3rd to outright disobey her father’s orders and talk back to him. She was the 3rd non-Anglo Caucasian in a row and the 4th to have jet black hair. She was the 2nd to replace magic with spiritual/natural elements. As far as unique, she was the 1st to: join a war and be a soldier, be Asian, be raised by both parents throughout her childhood, modeled after a poem rather than fable or real life figure, not actually be a ‘princess’ by birth or marriage or technicality, impersonate a male, be completely altruistic and sacrificing herself in major ways for citizens of China she doesn’t even know and be the major factor in defeating her villain.

Pocahontas was the 5th to be born a princess rather than marry into royalty, the 4th to want to explore and 2nd to want to explore other cultures specifically. She was the 4th to have just 1 parent and 4th for that 1 parent to just be the father. She was the 2nd to outright disobey her father’s orders and talk back to him. She was the 2nd non-Anglo Caucasian in a row and the 3rd to have jet black hair. As far as unique, she was the 1st to: be able to freely roam about whenever and wherever she wanted to, be Native-American, modeled after a real life person/princess, not end up with a prince or any love interest, replace magic with spiritual/natural elements, be shown to be very wise and mature in decision-making, take responsibility for their own actions (admit a wrong) and get in between and stop a war between 2 cultures.

I think Ariel is the absolute most unique princess of them all. She was the 2nd princess to be a more 'relatable/regular girl' type of princess, in a different way for a different time period, as she was very symbolic of rebellious teenagers in the late 1980s in America. She was the 3rd to be spunky in her tone after Aurora was not spunky at all in that way and the 3rd to be born into royalty. As far as unique, she was the 1st to: be fully red haired, be exploratory and intellectually curious in nature, show an interest in reading, grow up with at least 1 parent her entire childhood and 1st for that parent to be a father, talk back to her parent and openly choose to disobey them/rebellious, be non-human, run away from home, physically take on her villain, and choose to leave her family for love.

Apart from being non Caucasian princess and having a business driven ambition and turning herself into a frog, i don't think much is unique about her.
