She's highly materialistic, and I cannot stand her motormouth. She never has anything nice to say, either, which makes it truly aggravating!!!

I think she is a bit of a stick in the mud at first and wouldn't let loose. She was uptight and unwielding at first but she does loosen up eventually but still she has sort of a one-track mind which might made things sort of difficult. I wouldn't say that she's obsessed with materialistic success (because if that's the case then I am too because I dream on being successful and having nice things and I'm willing to work for my dreams, that's pretty normal and I admire her work ethic) but she is obsessed with work (work is good but she seriously needs a life, she needs to unwind a little). She does calm down in the end and her dream comes true, nothing wrong with dreaming of having a successful restaurant and working hard towards it, a lot of people do that and many do get far because of their hard work. Still, she needs to understand that relationships are important too. She can get a little preachy at times too.

^ It is HOW Tiana chooses to voice her opinions, that makes her a VERY DISAGREEABLE person to be around. Given the choice, I would never be her friend.

I think I agree with Diaz. She's kind of preachy, and thinks she's always right.
Nonetheless, she's still one of my favorites.

I pick None of these. The idea that she "values work over relationships" is just inaccurate since she clearly chose Naveen over her restaurant. If I was a child then perhaps I might think "overly uptight" but as an adult living in the real world I don't see how she's "uptight" let alone "overly". Again I do not see "Strongly opinionated & sarcastic" as a flaw whatsoever as it shows she is smart, she cares and she has a sense of humor. That being said I don't find her sarcastic though. "obsessed with materialistic success" is a massive distortion. She was obsessed with fulfilling her father's dream for her, not for materialistic success. She wasn't in it for the money or the status, she was in it for her father and to prove he was right and she could make it happen. I don't know where in the movie that she was "Bossy" to anyone other than Naveen who completely deserved it, in my opinion, with his laziness and disrespect. Aside from that, she wasn't bossy. Perhaps assertive but that's also why she was successful and I don't think assertiveness is a flaw.

@laylastepford:
Lets see them one by one from my perspective:
Values work over relationships: choosing Naveen happened at the very end, when she realizes eventually that relationships are equally important and both should have their own space in life. Valuing one over another is imbalanced way of living. She clearly keeps denying going to social gatherings, didn't want to date anyone, didn't even enjoy herself. Having said that, everyone has their own disposition in life and I don't judge Tiana on this trait at all myself.

Overly uptight: You find her co-workers, friends, Mother often telling her to loosen up a bit and not work-work-work all her life. A person not giving an inch of thought to anything and anyone except their work, would for me count as "overly" uptight

strongly opinionated & sarcastic: i don't believe in this myself and is merely an option based on popular views of Tiana. I would like to hear from people choosing this option.

Bossy: Oh she is bossy for sure. She always thought that her way was the right way, that no one should be lazy like prince naveen ( why not he has tons of people working for him), he wasn't disrepectful, he only suggested for her to relax a bit. People are who they are coz of their circumstances and how they deal with it. Just coz Tiana has to work so hard for her dream, why should everyone do so, when they are perfectly happy otherwise. She also told Ray that he was stupid to have this fascination with a star. She also told Lottie that wishing upon a star won't solve things - i can counter-argue myself and say she only advised from practical point of view and with best of intentions so that they don't get hurt later on but she did have strong opinions from which she never seems to budge and thought everyone should also be like her.

Obsessed with materialistic value:
I was surprised to see her become like who she is as an adult despite having so much of a stable, loving childhood. Her father didn't only share his dream but also told her " never lose sight of what is important in life" which was family and love, which he was so sincerely. That's what Mama Odie points out to her too "You's a hard one, that's what I heard
Your daddy was a loving man
Family through and through
You your daddy's daughter
What he had in him you got in you

You got to dig a little deeper
For you it's gonna be tough
You got to dig a little deeper
You ain't dug near far enough"
While growing up, she forgot about values of family and love, and became way too focussed on making the restaurant dream, sacrificing "the real important things in life". That's why the word "obsessed". While i believe her intentions were to follow and bring alive her father's dream, but she truly did get lost with the purpose of it, and that's why the words "materialistic success". Only in the end she finally realized what it means to have a dream and also someone special to share it with.

anukriti2409:
Values work over relationships: How can you say that Jasmine just never met anyone she liked enough yet it's not possible that Tiana's just never met anyone worth giving up her time for? I don't believe she valued work over her parents, the people she cares most about. In fact, I don't believe she valued work over any of her relationships. She valued her dream/goal, not work. The fact that she worked as hard as she did doesn't mean she valued it over her relationships, she just understood her priorities were important to reaching her goal so they reflected what they needed to be. When one is school, especially college, they don't have time to value their social life over their "work" or grades if they want to succeed the best they can. It's about priorities. At her time in life, her priorities were on work and she doesn't come off like a social butterfly so I don't see how it's proper to fault her for her social preferences since it doesn't hurt or affect anyone else. Some people aren't comfortable in constant social settings.

Overly uptight: In Tiana's song "Almost There" she describes her town and the people in it when she says "This old town can slow you down, people taking the easy way. But I know exactly where I'm going, I'm getting closer and closer every day." The people that live in her town do not understand her because they do not have the same priorities as she does. The only other person in the entire town with goals similar to Tiana, is Charlotte's father, and he never says anything negative about Tiana's work ethic because he understands. Since Tiana didn't have much in common with her friends and she wanted this dream more than anything else, I fail to see where she is "overly uptight". She's actually usually very "relaxed", albeit busy, and talks to them in a very cool manner.

Bossy: Actually Naveen was very disrespectful, he expected her to do all of the work while they were frogs while he relaxed. That is disrespectful in my book and obviously in hers. "She always thought that her way was the right way" where does this occur? Obviously Naveen was not perfectly happy as he admitted to Tiana that he doesn't know how to do anything for himself since he's never been taught how to do anything. Why should she expect him to learn to do things on his own despite servants? Because I don't believe that someone is better than everyone else just because they were born in a specific family with royalty and have all of the money and power and neither does Tiana. Having servants do everything for you shows that you have no character and you think you are a God on earth and everyone else must serve you. It is very disrespectful and belittling, especially when he treated Tiana like one of his servants. I am proud of her for sticking up for herself to him. I don't think her reaction to his awfulness was uncalled for or extreme at all.

While I do think that Tiana did not go about the delivery in the right way, I don't believe she was wrong to tell Ray about the fact that he was in love with an inanimate object that would never love him back. I think she was helping him. I think it's improper for people to lie to you and let you believe something that can never be true so actually on this one, I believe Tiana was the only one who was treating Ray with proper respect by telling him the truth.

When she told Charlotte that "wishing upon a star won't solve things", she was only trying to help. Her intent was to help her friend because she did not want to see her friend end up unhappy and alone, like she did anyways. I believe that the intent of someone means a lot, sometimes more than the action itself as the famous line goes "It's the thought that counts." Tiana was trying to help her friend because her father had taught her that you need to dig down deep and work hard to make your dreams come true. She was simply trying to pass on this advice to her best friend and I cant believe anyone would fault her for this at all.

Obsessed with materialistic value: Again I would say obsessed with her dream not materialistic value. I personally think she was afraid of finding love because her father had died young and she knew the restaurant couldn't die so she focused more on the restaurant than developing social relationships. I don't agree that she forgot about values of family and love as she was still pretty involved with her mother. I still don't understand why the word "materialistic" would be thrown in here because she didn't care about the material value of the restaurant at all, she cared about fulfilling a goal. I don't see how the goal is materialistic just because it involves a business when it was for family reasons not money reasons.

Both this and her being uptight imo.

Not so much that she's opinionated, and I love the snark actually -- but those two options come closest to what truly bugs me about Tiana: even though she's my favorite DP, she's is incredibly self-righteous and has little tolerance for those who don't do things her way. And Tiana has no qualms about telling them to their faces. It's undiplomatic, narrow-minded, and mean.

I don't get the "obsessed with materialistic value" option though, tbh. Tiana didn't want the restaurant for the money, she wanted it because it was a dream she shared with father to own that restaurant and she felt she owed it to him to keep trying for it even after he died. Having the restaurant was supposed to be a way to bring people together.
