I know it's a couple years late but I've always wanted to address this and what better way to do it than an article.
Now I have a LOVE/hate relationship with this video, I have to make sure to emphasize the first word because honestly I thought it was funny. I'm sorry, it makes me laugh every time. I Liebe Robot Chicken and Adult Swim, they're hilarious.
So as Du can guess I'm not mad at Robot Chicken for making the video. Their job is to make me laugh and they do it well. They've done just as bad if not worse to characters that are just as if not Mehr beloved. I don't take it seriously. They didn't "Ruin My Childhood" because I know it's a joke. However I am little mad at all the people who Kommentiert that clearly don't pay too much attention when they watch the Filme oder have the vaguest memory really. But I'm not gonna get into that yet.
Let me just talk about what I liked and what I was surprised by. Clearly the creators know a bit Mehr about the princesses than the average person. I liked that Snow White was the leader and not Cinderella. They actually got some of the personalities right, filtered for Mehr adult setting of course. jasmin is the princess most likely to say something mean unprovoked and Ariel is the most likely to say something outlandish. I thought it was interesting that Belle went with others while Ariel and jasmin stayed with the classics. It's also interesting that Rapunzel left because I feel like there's a mentality surrounding the princesses that white princess=cute and non-white princess=strong. Belle and jasmin seem to be the only princesses immune to it. I'm also sad that Pocahontas didn't get any lines.
Now, let me get down to the meat of this. I think it's absolutely hilarious that of all the princesses, Aurora was my Favorit in this parody. When Merida entered the room and Aurora sarcastically uttered the line of the century in regards to Merida, "Oh, you're so feminist and empowered, great". I was like girl Du better tell it. That line just sums up why I can't stand Merida and a lot of her fans. How she just walked in Schauspielen like the female version of a male chauvinist, how she reacted with "not a damn song" and how the other princesses followed her out. All of that just infuriates me.
First of all, most of the princesses who went with Merida are Mehr likely to side with the other team. Especially Mulan, she would much rather associate herself with girls like Aschenputtel and Aurora before anyone like Merida. Same goes for Belle, Tiana and Rapunzel. In fact, the two princesses that would actually like Merida are the two non-classics that stayed! jasmin and Ariel! Now, the depiction of Merida isn't entirely accurate but it still feeds to my dislike of her. How she's supposed to be this "anti-princess", feminist, empowered, "strong and independent" heroine who "don't need no man" and she "breaks the princess mold" and "puts the older princesses to shame" and blah blah blah. It's also why I can't stand some of her fans, that "not a damn song" line just signifies how people think she's such a groundbreaking and revolutionary character who's so much better than the other princesses because she doesn't sing and she doesn't have a prince. As if Singen and romance are bad things. And these same Fans are praising Merida, and the other "empowered" princesses to the hügel tops all while bringing the rest down. Ugh.
So, long story short. I Liebe and hate the video for a lot of reasons. It's hilarious, Snow White, Jasmine, Aurora and Ariel were particularly funny. But Merida and the ignorant audience reaction pissed me off. Also, Jasmine's face, what was up with that? Anyway, thanks for reading!
