HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — The roads are blocked off in Hopewell for a movie shoot featuring local extras and a huge movie star.
Daniel Radcliffe, one of the stars in the Harry Potter movies, is currently shooting a movie called ‘Imperium in the city.’
“I think it’s really cool, I would have never placed a movie being made in Hopewell,” says Susan Rinker, a Hopewell resident.
“It was exciting, He’s a great actor. I love him a lot,” said another Hopewell resident, Camryn Rinker.
Hopewell beat out other major Virginia cities like Arlington. Now the crews are here, and they’ll be filming for several more weeks.
Movie producer Ty Walker not only fell in love with Hopewell, but another plus was an abundance of local talent who’ve worked on other projects.
“Being in Hopewell, number one, the back drop just worked. It’s a beautiful city, we have beautiful people that we are working with, great great talent, there is a lot of people that worked on Turn,” says Walker.
Turn is an AMC mini series also shot in Central Viriginia.
In the film Imperium, Radcliffe plays an under cover FBI agent. City leaders tell me more than 75 percent of the film will be shot in Hopewell, a first for the city.
“We are just happy to have them here and we hope this will be the first of  many. Know that there is two other projects coming that they are filming at least part of here in the very near future and that’s exciting,” says Charles Dane, the assistant city manager.
Crews will be in town for a few more weeks and locals will also be at shoots, as they try to get a glimpse of the star.
