Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 Will Feature Constantine as Series Regular

Matt Ryan will join Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 when John Constantine becomes a full time member.

Sometimes fan patience pays off. It remains one of the great injustices of our current golden age of superhero television that

only ran for one season on NBC. Despite a fan campaign to make a second season happen, it wasn\'t to be. But you simply do not waste a ridiculously perfect piece of casting like Matt Ryan as John Constantine. Ryan\'s Constantine has since returned to work his dark magic on

before season three wraps, and has his own animated series about to premiere, too.

Season 4 hasn\'t been officially confirmed by the network. But the fact that this was suddenly announced by a variety of different outlets at the same time (I\'ll just go ahead and credit

) sure makes it feel like there\'s something going on. Word of a guest star becoming a series regular doesn\'t usually get out. Either a decision is close, or they\'re looking to drum up excitement for this final batch of season three episodes, which will prominently feature Matt Ryan as Constantine more than once, including the season finale.

Adding Constantine to the team makes perfect sense.

has long been a kind of "island of misfit toys" for cool, slightly displaced characters, and it\'s known for swapping up its roster with abandon. This season in particular has been a busy one in that regard. But the current season\'s focus on magic and demons has meant that we\'ve heard Constantine\'s name come up several times, even when he hasn\'t actually shown up. If he\'s going to be around for every adventure next year, that might be a sign they\'re considering other stories where having a magic specialist around will be necessary.
