I can not tell you how much I dislike the Twilight novels.

I definitely agree there. That's one reason I asked this question. I know that Harry Potter was super hyped, and a lot of people think it's overrated, but I got into the series before it was so huge, and I'm glad. If someone tried to get me to read it AFTER it got big, I may not have gotten as into it as I did. However, a friend of mine broke down and bought the first Twilight book. He showed it to me in class and I started on the first couple pages and I just could not continue. I asked him if he thought he'd finish it, and he said, "Probably not, but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about."

I started and finished Twilight yesterday, after massive consideration from myself and begging from my friends. It was just.... okay. I mean, the plot was sort of interesting, but the writing wasn't that good. And I was expecting to be amazed. I'm sure I would have liked it a bit better had it not been so hyped.
Not sure if I'll bother with the rest of the series.

And I love Harry Potter (I got into it before it was big as well) - I think the books are very well written.

I read a message board where the person was like, "Oh, yeah. I don't know which to read: Gone With the Wind or Twilight? I've heard both are good." And I almost had a heart attack. Putting Twilight in the same level of amazingness as Gone With the Wind is blasphemy, heresy, and all other forms of religious wrongdoing.
It just made me realize how big the hype is about Twilight. It sickens me.

Oh no! Twilight could never compete with Scarlet O'Hara! How dare it even try! I don't even think Harry Potter can compete with Gone With the Wind.

well i personally love both. i think harry potter is better and deserved all the attention it got and twilight i guess is a bit over-hyped. it sorta irks me when they talk about how it beat hp out of #1 spot. its really good but i get annoyed about the "fan girl frenzy" about it. i mean i am obessed about, i won't lie, but i was with harry potter but the fuss over twilight seems different and can be annoying. im still getting my book at midnight though!

despite my answer i love both series. and a friend of mine says she hates harry potter because its so popular...now is that a good reason for hating a book?

These books are like The Jonas Brothers. Millions of girls love them and have to let everyone know. They make people hate the book/jonas without even reading/listening.

Harry Potter is popular because it's actually a good book - amazing charcater develpoment, believable plot, action, excitement, and lots of plot twists. Twilight is the essence of lameness, and girls only like it because they think this Edward character is soooooooo hot and like reading about people kissing.

Harry Potter is over-hyped (in my opinion) but they're decent books. Twilight is bad bad bad. I'm so over hearing about it. I get it, heaps of people love Twilight. I don't. It's badly written, predictable, cheesy, blah blah blah. I'm sorry, but this is like the 20th pick about Twilight I've done today (this isn't a shot at you Cinders, 'cos this is the first time I have actually picked Twilight for anything lol) but there are so many incredible books in the world it would be nice if there was a bit more variation here. I find it hard to believe that so many people all think Twilight is their favourite book ever. It is only one series out of how many million? This is the 'books to read' site, I'm pretty certain everyone knows about Twilight now. Lets shift the spotlight a little, please.

Bravo ebathory! You took a lot of what I would say and some things I wouldn't have the balls to. Your opinions are a bit more extreme than mine, but I definitley empathize.
I personally like the Harry Potter books- but I don't LOVE them. They live up to a lot of the hype, but not all. The Twilight books are the genre of books I read when sick or on an airplane. (aka when I can't focus on anything more complicated)

I do like twilight but I don't get why there is so much fuss about it, is good but they're not like the best books ever, I love harry potter, and I got into them way before they were huge, I don't like to compare them they are very diferent but I think HP is better

I think they are both are overhyped but twilight is completely over rated. One of my friends loved it completely for about 2 weeks until I got her to pick up a book other than twilight after she read that it moved from about 2nd down to about 30th on her favorite books list. I personally don't like to read books that everyone else is reading(unless I read them before they became big or they are classics) so I have not read them but my friend (the one I told you about before) Told me pretty much the whole plot which didn't really interest me so I didn't read them.

mostly twilight even though i read them and love new moon i hate all the others and people get wayyyy too obsessed over something thats fiction. COME ON EDWARD ISNT REAL! HE'S FAKE! ya :D

Harry Potter is EASILY the worst book I've ever read.

I like Twilight, but its not as wildly fantastic as everyone makes it out to be.

I used to love Twilight, no joke. But then people started talking about ALL THE TIME, and I read it again, and now, it seems kind of ridculous, and way overatted, when there not that great anymore.

Why do people hate things just because the become popular and more people like them. Some person above me somewhere said they are glad they read harry potter before they became popular because they could not of gotten as into them. Can someone explain that because I have no idea what the difference is!!!!!
