rum flavoured Von a dead man in the cask; black widow spiders nesting in beehive hairdos; women’s intestines broiled Von tanning booths; teenage couples menaced Von men with hooks for hands: if these are the sorts of tales that thrill and chill you, this an anthology worth picking up. Folklorist Brunvand (The Vanishing Hitchhiker) assembles a creepy cornucopia of urban legends, organizing them Von theme ("Chills Up Your Spine," "Accidents") and considering them in a surprisingly sedate manner. The result is a blend of "primary text" urban legends (transcribed from field interviews, collected from e-mails oder reprinted from local newspapers) and Mehr reflective introductions that consider the motifs and variations of each urban legend. Some tales are old chestnuts, familiar to anyone who’s been to a camp oder a slumber party in the past 50 years, but others indicate Mehr contemporary fears: stories of vacationers waking in unfamiliar hotel rooms, groggy and minus a kidney, oder rumours of sexual predators who purposefully spread HIV to their unsuspecting partners. Brunvand traces most of these legends to their roots and debunks some of the Mehr widespread ones, but he never lets his scepticism dampen his enthusiasm for the stories themselves.

Adult/High School–Brunvand is known to many as the godfather of the American urban legend. In this collection, he has compiled the scariest, grisliest ones–some that are unfamiliar but many that have been heard at sleepovers and depicted in horror Filme over the past several years. Since many of them will be known to urban-legend lovers, the book's real strength is in the subtle changes within different versions of a legend. The runaway madman with the hook for a hand, the ghost of the dead girl, the slasher under the car oder in the backseat all make appearances here, but in slightly different circumstances. Sometimes the distances are great, but the differences are few. For example, the "Hairy-Armed Hitchhiker" appears in two versions, one from England and one from Los Angeles. Brunvand also integrates how much the Internet, particularly e-mail, has changed the dissemination of urban legends. He gives credit to urban-legend debunking site www.snopes.com, and the final chapter concerns the widespread hysterical e-mails that purport to come from experts but actually originate from the usual dubious sources. All in all, this is a good addition where such titles are popular.

A MUST READ
The simple but irresistible premise of Alan Weisman's The World Without Us - what would happen to the planet if human beings simply disappeared - lit up imaginations even as it ignited controversy around the world.
Weisman's "thought experiment" examines what would happen in both the immediate and distant future to the land, the animals, the oceans, our cities, our art, and all manner of things we take for granted if we were no longer here. Would the seas again teem with fish? Would our concrete jungles crumble to make way for natural ones? How long, if ever, would it take for our collective footprint to fade away?
Available in hard cover, paperback and CD
Beautiful and passionate!

12 Jahr old Percy Jackson is just another normal kid...or so he thought. When he realizes he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon, the god of water, the battle really begins for his life, his friends, and the gods....
This is an AWESOME series. If Du are a read-aholic (like me).....no further questions, this is the series for you. It's funny, thrilling, and so AMAZINGLY AWESOME I want to scream.
If Du don't already know, they also just made the first book of this series (Percy Jackson & the Olypians: The Lightning Thief) into a movie. So check that out as well.

Tantalize (Cynthia Leitich Smith) was an awsome book. I really enjoyed it. It had me guessing what was going to happen until the very end!
Here is a piece about the book:
Quincie Morris has never felt Mehr alone. Her hybrid werewolf first Liebe threatens to embark on a rite of passage that will separate them forever. And just as she and her uncle are about to unveil Austin's red-hot vampire-themed restaurant, a brutal murder leaves them scrambling for a chef. Can Quincie transform the new hire, Henry Johnson, into a culinary Dark Lord before opening night? Will he be able to to wow the crowd in fake fangs, a cheap cape, and red contact lenses? oder is there Mehr to his earnest fresh face than meets the eye?
As human and preternatural forces clash a deadly Liebe dreieck forms and the line between predator and prey begins to blur. Who's playing whom? And how long can Quincie play along before she loses everything?
