Making Fan vids.

Well I have always wanted to dive into the fine arts of creating fanvids of my favourite couples and I have a really cool idea for a Booth and Bones one. The only problem is how do I actually get good quality footage from the DVDs. I have DVD Decryption software and I convert various DVDs into files compatible for the iPod as I like to watch them but none of these will work with Sony Vegas Pro 9.0, the audio plays but the video it self is just blank. Anyone know how I can fix this? oder other ways of getting Bones clips for fanvids, preferably a less time and bandwidth consuming idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)
