‘Big Hero 6′ Voice Actor Genesis Rodriguez Confirms ‘Rumblings’ of a Sequel
has proven to be another huge success for Walt Disney Animation, grossing (as of this posting) over $600 million worldwide. Following in the footsteps of 2013′s
went on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, beating out the heavily favored
Along with the high acclaim the film has earned, interest in a sequel continues to grow.
‘s concept – that of technologically-powered teens forming a supehero team – lends itself to a franchise, with the promise of more bad guys to fight and adventures to be had.
directors Chris Williams and Don Hall said they currently had no plans for a sequel. However, don’t take that to mean Disney has no plans for Hiro Hamada, Baymax and the rest of the team. Disney is, if anything, a marketing superpower and the company has a knack for striking while the iron is hot. Now that
is Disney’s third highest grossing animated film

How is it to have your name attached to a now Oscar-winning project?
Genesis: It’s cool. It’s really cool.
Have they lined you up for a sequel or anything yet?
Genesis: There’s rumblings of something else happening. I mean yesterday I just saw that it’s the third most grossing Disney animated feature, so this is huge for them. I doubt that they wouldn’t want to do another one. It was a huge success.
Genesis: Right? But they are doing ‘Frozen.’ So, who knows? Maybe they’ll do something with ‘Big Hero 6.’
What do you do with the number? “Big Hero 6.2”?
Genesis: Well, it’s a comic book, so they have so many… It’s a Marvel franchise that Disney adapted. Just like comic books, you could make it a complete different story and the superheroes reunited to attack someone else. So it’s a perfect little setup they got for a sequel if they wanted to.
Rodriguez echoes what so many of us already believe: Disney would be fools not to consider making
sequels. Yet, they’d be even more foolish to rush a sequel into production simply for the sake of it.
, and though it seems she’s mistakenly referring to a sequel (and there are currently no plans for a
sequel), the film has been given new life with an animated short set to release in front of
, too, could be further explored in such a format, and with no plans for a sequel, it only makes sense for Disney to turn to animated shorts to keep the film and its characters in the public consciousness. Plus, a
short would definitely need newly recorded dialogue, which could very well be the sort of work Rodriguez is hearing “

How cool would it be if a live action version of Big Hero 6 and The Incredibles showed up in Civil War or Infinity War.
Umm given that there is a cr&pload of other stuff to fit in, some it more hopeful than concrete, like GOTG or xmen crossover, and given that Incredibles and BH6 are already great as they are animated, better that way really, I’d say no, and BH6 made leaps and bounds for CGI photo realism if compare it to other stuff before it, it never looks right with live action actors quite, spy kids anything as an example why, but well done cgi camera work, high detail, like how they did the go pro filming style when Baymax flew, or drone camera chases like in the car chase scene, the wet streets, even when they crashed into the water, better animation for realism than anything before it, quite something, as well as great character and story, it was a cut above for seeming to have not as much as it did in the trailer
Not very cool. What about a Disney/Pixar civil war with the Incredibles vs Big Hero 6? …also not very cool… hmmm
Sequels to all films would be very cool though!
It’ll be a live action sequel that will not win any Academy Awards because superhero movies are cartoons for kids, not art.
I went to see this with my two nephews and while I wouldn’t say it was the worst film I’d seen this year or last year, it was pretty disappointing. I know the film was made for kids blah blah blah, but honestly, I was hoping it would be a laugh but nope, didn’t enjoy one minute of it and actually ended up getting told off by an usher who thought I was trying to record the film on my Iphone when I was actually reading a book on it.
But at least one of my nephews seemed to enjoy it. He said ‘The Mash mellow Robot was the best thing about it’
You read a book during the movie and than you complain you didn’t get 1 laugh out of it?
Who would have thought apparently things are not funny when you don’t pay attention to them.
while I agree that this is not a great film (for me it was just too formulaic) there were a lot of great jokes in it and i don’t know one person no matter what the age that didn’t find the film at least enjoyable.
OK…can I Just ask why the heck are you even reading this and commenting on it, if your not a fan of bh6? I came here looking for news on a possible sequel (I’m a REALLY big fan of bh6 and I’m 18) and was hoping to see nice and happy comments about Big Hero 6 but all I got WAS CRAP ABOUT HOW PEOPLE THOUGHT IT WAS BORING AND SH***IT…REALLY?! ….If your going to talk crap about bh6 can you please go somewhere else and do that?
I think she is referring to the Frozen Short that Disney is doing!
Maybe Screenrant hasn’t heard about it,but Disney did that !
Surely, you didn’t even read the entire paragraph you’re referring to:
“Rodriguez also makes mention of Frozen, and though it seems she’s mistakenly referring to a sequel (and there are currently no plans for a Frozen sequel), the film has been given new life with an animated short set to release in front of Cinderella.”
I did,but sadly i seem to have a short term memory for some stuff !
Maybe its cause i am not a native speaker, but i do not understand that sentence of why you wrote mistakenly referring to a sequel if we know the only thing coming is the short !
Sorry if its my bad, don’t mean to troll. Meant no offense ,just did not get the logic of it !
Honey Lemon my fav character, the sweet voiced demeanor of a hot geeky science girl, much appeal.
If Marvel ever gets X-Men back or works out a deal with Fox they should do a live-action Big Hero 6 that’s closer to the comics.
Damn, I wouldn’t want a sequel, the movie works fine as a standalone
I’d like a sequel. As long as they stay true to certain plot points. Like Hiro staying in school and getting smarter/better and Baymax actually going into production to become a robotic nurse just like Tadashi had envisioned. That doesn’t mean that our Baymax wouldn’t still be in operation and unique. That also doesn’t mean there won’t be adventures.
But if they made a sequel where Tadashi’s hard work and vision was NOT recognized. Or Hiro DID turn into an adolescent dropout, I would be extrememly disappointed.
I was actually pleasantly surprised with Big Hero 6,so a sequel seems like a no-brainer.Then again,so did a sequel to The Incredible and we’ve yet to even hear the faintest of whimpers of one,so…
Yes please. If they don’t feel like doing Incredibles 2, they can at least do a sequel to this one.
I thought they announced the Incredibles 2 a while ago.
The Incredibles and Big Hero 6 in one movie…sounds so cool. Pixar/Disney can make their own universe.
Yah that would be cool, just no live action crossover with MCU
Disney’s third highest grossing film ever? Where’d you get that totally inaccurate fact?
Assuming you mean strictly Disney’s in-house animation films, which is the only way this would make any sense.
It would seem that they are getting it from everyone who is reporting it (sometimes it helps to Google before you post). However yes this seems to refer specifically to films released by Disney Animated Studios and not other studios (ie Pixar) owned by Disney.
Self-correction…….Walt Disney Animation, not Disney Animated Studios.
