Bangel vs Spuffy

Bangel vs Spuffy Frage
Why do some people pronounce "bangel" like "bangle" (the bracelet, oder the "Walk Like An Egyptian" band)?
(This could be a new war all on it's own, BUT)
I have explained several times why I pronounce "bangel" as "ban-gel" (so it rhymes with "angel"). Mostly, it's linguistic reasons. Technically, "Gel" is always a soft G, while "Gle" is always a hard G. Hence the difference between "Angel" and "Angle." Additionally, it just makes sense for the name to rhyme with "angel" which is one of its roots.
HOWEVER, there are people who pronounce "bangel" like "bangle" (like the bracelet). I'm just curious as to what your reasons are. Do Du think it sounds better that way, oder what?
