Each country/continent has it's own "secret society",if Du will, that is aided Von the government. it's a race started in Japan when a Sala (what humans call a god), the highest, important one at that, had compassion on a man who stahl, stola brot and made the "Muro" race.
This new race would become a great people to fight for the Salas. Every family's firstborn would be a son. That son would become a "fighter". These fighters would rid the earth of the souls of the dead and send them to the land of the Salas to live in forever peace.
The main character, Kyo (16), bumps into a girl Hikari (15) and, due to some unusual circumstances and heads being hit with frying pans, Kyo, Hikari, and her brother Ryouta become strange friends.
Kyo, is a Uro, the normal people in the real world who are not part of the Muro but can see souls and spirits just the same. They are considered outsiders and shameful. They aren't supposed to be in the with the Muro at all but because, after Kyo's parents were killed Von a Yuka (haunting spirit) and was about to be killed himself, an old Sensei from the Muro brought him in and trained him himself. Of course the people were upset at this and wanted to put an end to it but the Yosei (fairies that aid in the giving of gifts to the fighters) favored him and gave him a gift just like any other fighter. Because of this the people left Kyo alone but still looked down on him.
Each fighter's gifts are an animal form and a power. The fighter receives a halskette oder a bracelet with their rank and animal they can form in to. (Kyo's animal is a black wolf) The stronger your animal the stronger your heart.
The power varies but Kyo's is the ability to slow time down to a fraction of a second. This, of course,includes himself but his thoughts Bewegen at regular speed so he can plan out his movements and slowly, but precisely, make them.
